General Description

Heating Cable - Automatic Thermostatically Controlled - 15 FT - 110V

The heating cable is 15 feet long and is 110 V with a power consumption of 105 W. An automatic thermostat also controls the unit.

Function
The heating cable has an internal mechanism that gives off heat to raise the temperature of nearby materials. A built-in thermostat automatically turns off the cable when a desired temperature is reached, reactivating it again when the temperature drops below a certain point. The cable is often taped to pipes and used in conjunction with pipe insulation.

Applications
The heating cable is used for general freeze protection on pipes and residential water supply to avoid blockages or damage as a result of ice. The heating cable can be used on copper, plastic, or metal pipes.

can it be used inside a drain pipe ? Also, does it sense a change in temperature all along the cable or just the ends ?

Hello Glen, thank you for your question. Our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled Heat Cable can only be used on the outside of the pipe by spiraling it along the outside of it. The cable has its automatic thermostat located on the orange section of the cable. It will automatically turn the cable on when temperatures reach below 6°C (42.8°F) and turn off when temperatures reach 13°C (55.4°F).

How high and how low can the thermostat be set at?

Hello Gregory, thank you for your question. The thermostat on our automatic thermostatically controlled heating cables cannot be adjusted or set. Our heating cables come with their thermostats set at a preset temperature range from factory and cannot be changed. The cable is set to turn on when temps reach below 55 F (13 C) and shut off when gets above that temperature.

Can I wrap the cable around a truck battery?

Hello Marcel, thank you for your question. In theory, our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled Heating Cables can be wrapped around pretty much anything that is not flammable. That being said you could certainly wrap the cable around the battery but wouldnt recommend doing so inside the engine bay while the truck is running.

Will this heating cable be suitable for laying INSIDE a 4" diameter PVC pipe - to prevent ice build-up ?

Hello Dale, thank you for your question. We do not recommend to install these inside of the pipe but instead to wrap the outside of the pipe with the heating cable. We suggest to spiral the cable around the outside of the pipe and the spirals should be no more than 2-3 inches apart.

Can this work out in the open

Hello Duane, thank you for your question. These heating cables are not intended to be out in the open, however, are coated with a PVC/Rubber material that is water resistant so it will work out in the open. The cables are not meant to be submerged but will with stand getting wet.

I wish to use a 6 ft length under my cottage buried about one foot in sand. What type of insulation should I use around the pipe and heater wire?

Hello P.N., thank you for your question. Unfortunately our automatically thermostatically controlled heating cables are not designed to be buried and should not be. We do sell other heating cables that are made to be buried by dirt, concrete, or asphalt. Please contact our customer support staff to go over the many options we offer for heating cables.

Where is the thermostat; closer to the plug where the cord goes from orange to black or at the end of the black part?

Hello Brenda, thank you for your question. The thermostat on our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled heating Cables is located closer to the plug in the orange portion of the cable but has temperature sensors at different points of the cable to make sure it turns on when temperatures reach dangerously low temps that can cause water pipes to freeze.

Hi. Can this heat cable be used inside a pipe? Is it water resistant?

Hello Jan, thank you for your question. No our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled heating cable cannot be installed inside the pipe but rather wrapped or spiraled on the outside of it. The black part of the cable is water resistant but not waterproof it cannot be completely submerged under water. The orange lead cable with built in thermostat cannot get wet at all as it could damage the thermostat.

Lost my question to you when I dropped my tablet. In small print it says "11135-017". What temperature do I need to test this cable?

Hello Brenda, thank you for your question. The temperature range for thermostat on these heating cables is 6°C (42.8°F) to 13°C (55.4°F). It will automatically turn on when the temperature reaches 6°C or below and it will automatically turn off when the temperature reaches 13°C or higher. If you would want to test the cables they would need to be in that range to turn on and then off.

We do, however, offer our Automatic Thermostatically controlled heating cables in many different length. The longest length we offer is 80 ft which is found under sku# D1148069

Hello Mark, thank you for your question. In theory, these heating cables can be wrapped around anything and everything to heat it up. We obviously do not recommend wrapping it around anything that is flammable. You can certainly wrap this heating cable around a hydraulic jack to keep it warm and to make sure the viscosity of the hydraulic fluid does not increase so it flows as it should.

Does the black wire get warm or hot .I plug mine in and it doesn't get warm .Is it working ?

Hello Diane, thank you for your question. This is an automatic thermostatically controlled heating cable meaning it will turn on and off automatically within a set temperature range. If you plug it in and the ambient temperature is not below 55°F (13°C) it will not turn on. Once the temperature drops below that point it will automatically turn on and start to warm up. Once temperature rises above 55°F (13°C) it will shut off.

Can you use it on a hose that brings water into an RV?

Hello Scott, thank you for your question. Yes our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled Heating Cable can certainly be used on a hose that brings water into an RV. However, we strongly recommend that the cable never come in contact with the water and also to make sure the hose can withstand temperatures up to 60°C (140°F) because that is how hot the surface of the heating cable can get.

Will the tape work within a hollow birdbath receptical to keep the water from freezing? And how hot does the tape get?

Hello Amy, thank you for your question. D1148060 could possibly work, but before we commit to an answer, we would want to get a better idea of what the bird bath looks like and where you want to install the tape. As long as the tape is not in contact with the water but in the hollowed out portion, it should be fine. The tape reached temps of roughly 60°C (140°F).

We have a 3 foot pipe above the ground with about 3 feet of hose attached which runs water in a large horse tank. We are taking the hose off every night so it doesn't freeze. Would this product work for keeping the hose from freezing?

Hello Jeanne, thank you for your question. Yes our heating cable will certainly keep that hose from freezing over. Just make sure to install it spiraling around the outside of the hose. The cables reach temps at about 80°F to the touch so make sure the hose can withstand that temperature. We are pretty confident it does but its always best to double check.
