Office supply tips for your Home or Small Business

Setting up your home office or running a business requires big ticket items, including computers, printers, security systems, office furniture and office decor.  Along with these purchases you can pick up useful products that will aid you in such business tasks as record keeping, marketing, security and organizing.  Having all of your office supplies handy will make your business more efficient and improve productivity.

RECORDKEEPING

For a small business, organizing your inventory using cash registers with bar code scanners can help you by updating your records instantly.  You may also need a thermal printer for customer receipts.  Featuring a durable construction frame, the device will cope well in busy environments and function to optimal performance under a heavy workload.

Keeping records organized in your home is simpler, yet just as essential.  Use the basics, like binders, clipboards, memo pads, dry erase markers, sticky notes and labels, to keep your taxes and bills sorted and easy to find.

MARKETING

Deelat Industrial offers several products that can help a small business create marketing collateral in a do-it-yourself fashion.  Use a paper creaser to produce manuals, handbooks and other paper materials.  Do you need to create business cards in bulk?  You can use an automatic card cutting machine, which can cut at varying widths and lengths using a range of cardstock thicknesses.  Finish off your marketing materials by laminating them with a hot laminator.

SECURITY

Storing your cash in a drawer or cash box is essential when running a small business.  It’s not a bad idea to keep a cash box at home, too, for emergencies.

Similarly, a professional paper shredder can get heavy use in both environments.  In addition to a range of shredders that can destroy confidential papers, Deelat sells heavy duty shredders that can destroy credit cards, CDs, floppy disks and DAT cartridges.

Tips to Help you Create Your Own Home Office

Advances in technology and business practices have made working from home much more common than ever before, with more people regularly working remotely instead of spending all their time inside an office.

There’s lots of advantages to working from home, including the savings in time and money created by skipping the daily commute. However, it does create the need to supply yourself with a pleasant and efficient work space, instead of relying on your employers to do if for you.

Your home office needs to be somewhere that you can work from comfortably and without distraction, otherwise your work will suffer and you will find your remote privileges being reassessed quite quickly.

Here’s some helpful tips for creating a home office!

Get the computer furniture right

If you’re working from home, the chances are that your main essential work device is a computer, so you need to ensure that your office is set up correctly. If you use a laptop, a stand might be required to get the screen matching you’re height to safely use for extended periods of time. If you’re still using a desktop, a simple thing like a CPU holder to store it under your desk will make a big difference.

Get comfortable

Being at home gives you more freedom to move around than at work, but the visions of sunning yourself in the garden are likely to stay as visions rather than the reality. You’re more likely to stay seated at your desk for the majority of the day. So you need to get a comfortable ergonomic chair and quite possibly a foot rest to make sure that you don’t end the day with aches and pains.

Don’t forget the little things

There’s more to your desk in your home office than just a computer, so don’t neglect stocking up on things like pens and markers and post-it notes. You will still need to use these just as often as if you were in a real office, but now you can’t just get them from the stationery cupboard.

Think about storage

This is another aspect that we take for granted when we go to work; having somewhere to store our papers and notepads, etc. It’s possibly even more important in a home office, where your work information could potentially mix in with all of your home paperwork like insurance documents, bank statements, etc. It’s best to invest in a separate filing cabinet and drawers to ensure that work documents aren’t mislaid.

Make it a nice place to be

Don’t forget this is your home. You may be getting paid to work, but it’s still your property and you have the right to decorate however you want (as long as it looks professional when you’re on Skype calls, etc), so make sure you’re enjoying the benefits of being in your own home by making it look the way you want it to look, even if it’s just a case of having some flowers on display.

Tips for Creating a New Home Office

Working from home is becoming a more common way of life, whether it’s self-employed freelancers, consultants and entrepreneurs, or just office staff with the freedom to skip a long commute. There’s many advantages to working from home for both individuals and forward-thinking businesses, but not every home is actually set up to be a work space, so here are some tips for creating a home office.

Don’t forget the distinction between ‘home’ and ‘office’

One of the biggest mistakes any home-worker can make, is to forget that they are meant to be working in their home office, letting too much of their home life get in the way, or vice versa. It’s important to treat your office as a work space and the rest of your home as a place to relax, otherwise you will find both your work and family life suffering. One way to ensure that your office stays on track is to make sure you have the right kind of storage space to prevent it from getting cluttered.

office 3

If you want some decent shelving to store files and paperwork, why not try open steel shelving, which is practical and durable. If you want something a bit more ‘homely’ you could also take a look at see thru door cabinets, which are smart and sophisticated. They also offer much-needed storage solutions. Either of these options will help you keep your office as tidy as it would be if you were working at a ‘real’ office, keeping your mind uncluttered and on the task at hand.

Make sure your work area is set up correctly

Another problem with working from home is that your computer desk set-up can be less than ideal when it comes to ergonomics. Businesses have an obligation to make sure you aren’t harming your eyes and body with bad posture, but if you’re at home, that responsibility lies with you. The basics are that the top of your computer screen should be at eye level, your forearms should be parallel with the floor when you are using your mouse or keyboard, and your feet should rest firmly on the floor or a footrest.

So clearly, you can’t just use any old table you found in the attic, you need a proper computer desk, or at the very least a laptop stand to ensure that your computer is positioned correctly. If you’re really committed to working in a health-conscious manner, you should consider a standing desk to give you the option to work while standing up, which is much better for you than spending a full day sitting down. If you do prefer using a seat from time to time, why not get an ergonomic stool that will be good for you and comfortable too!

Getting Kids Ready to Go Back to School: 10 Helpful Tips

Summer vacation is almost over and many individuals are making preparations for the kids to go back to school. Although this can be a hectic time of year, it can also be an exciting time when proper planning is involved.

back to school

Below are 10 helpful tips to make the upcoming school year a great one!

1.) Begin by thoroughly cleaning your kid’s bedroom, especially the closet. This is a great time to get rid of clothes that are worn or no longer fit. Also use this time to determine what clothing items you might need to purchase.

2.) Organize and prepare a place for study or doing homework. This should be a quiet place where there are little distractions nearby. Be sure to equip this space with comfortable seating, a desk, power hub and quality lighting. And don’t forget to stock up on supplies so that you don’t have to run out and buy paper and other items later on when reports are due.

3.) Set up a space for notes from teachers such as permission slips. This should be a system that includes an inbox (for documents that mom or dad need to see) along with an outbox (signed documents for the kids to take back to school).

4.) Put together an activities calendar to help keep track of homework, sports and other activities.

5.) Visit the doctor and make sure all of your child’s immunizations are up-to-date.

6.) Secure plans and arrangements for taking the kids to and picking them up from school. If need be, sign up the kids for after-school programs or daycare.

7.) Set a definite bedtime that will ensure the kids have plenty of rest. You will also want to decide what time the kids will get up. This should allow time for them to get dressed and have a healthy breakfast. Send kids to bed and get them up early according to this schedule a few days before school starts to get them acclimated.

8.) Meet the new teacher before the first day of school if possible. Exchange phone numbers in case there is any need for communication. Don’t forget to leave emergency contact information as well.

9.) Try to meet other parents and exchange phone numbers or e-mail addresses for future contact.

10.) Get the kids excited about the first day and the new school year.

Before going shopping, make a list of what you will need before school begins. Some things you might need, include:

  • Making sure you know the specifics of any dress codes before you begin making purchases.
  • Homework office supplies such as paper, pencils, pens, a computer, computer cart and printer.
  • Notebooks, binders, tablet accessories, calculators and other items for the classroom. You should receive a list from the teacher. Be sure to get everything on the list if possible.
  • Groceries including breakfast and lunch items.
  • Wall calendar or planner.
  • Backpacks

Preparing a Functional Home Office

Whether you work from home or are looking for a designated place to pay bills, do homework or simply surf the net, a home office may be just what you’re looking for.

Setting up a home office can be a simple process when taking the proper steps. First you’ll need to choose the space of your office. Some options include a spare bedroom or basement. Today however, some spaces in your home may go unused such as a formal dining room. You may consider setting up your office there for added convenience. Creating a computer closet is another option to consider if space is limited – a great idea for someone living in an apartment or condominium.

Once you’ve decided where to set up your office, you’ll need to purchase some important basics including:

  • A work space such as a desk or table.
  • Comfortable seating like a task chair. Be sure it is ergonomic to avoid problems such as back strain.
  • Filing cabinets or other storage containers.
  • Equip your room or space with adequate lighting. Combine desk lamps with ceiling lighting for various tasks such as reading, writing and computer work.
  • Ensure you have suitable outlets for all of your technology. This problem can be solved with a quality surge protector.
  • Office supplies such as paper, paper clips, pens, file folders, binders and more.

Finally, don’t forget to personalize your space with family photos, plants and artwork. Display any awards, degrees or other achievements on your wall. Remember, you’ll want this space to be inspirational and comfortable in order to create new ideas and make progress with you’re work.
